Everyone's Talking About AI. I'm Building Something Human.

Everyone is talking about AI.

How it will change work. How it will reshape industries. How it will make us more productive, more efficient, more optimised. Every conference, every headline, every pitch deck — AI, AI, AI.

And they're not wrong. AI is extraordinary. I use it every day. As a solo founder building SharedOut, it helps me do the work of a team — drafting documents, thinking through architecture decisions, even helping me write this post. I'm not here to argue against it.

But here's what nobody is talking about.

While we've been racing toward a smarter, faster, more automated world, something quieter has been disappearing. Something that doesn't show up in productivity metrics or GDP figures or tech valuations.

Community. Connection. The simple, irreplaceable experience of being human together.

A city full of neighbours who don't know each other

I see it every day in Singapore's HDB estates. A city of 1.13 million households packed closer together than almost anywhere else on earth — and yet people who have lived thirty metres apart for twenty years still don't know each other's names.

We have faster internet, smarter phones, and more apps than we can count. And somehow, the woman two floors up has no idea that the man three doors down has the drill she needs. The skilled nail technician running a home studio in the next block has no way to reach the hundreds of neighbours who would book her in a heartbeat if they only knew she existed.

We are surrounded by community. We just lost the infrastructure for it.

Why I'm building this alone

I am a solo founder. I didn't build SharedOut because I spotted a gap in the market. I built it because I felt a gap in something more important — the kind of gap you feel when you realise the city you grew up in, the one that prided itself on kampung spirit and neighbourliness, has slowly become a collection of closed doors and unopened WhatsApp messages.

The world doesn't need another AI platform right now.

It needs a reason for neighbours to knock on each other's doors again.

What SharedOut actually is

SharedOut is that reason. Not a revolutionary technology. Not a disruption. Just a simple, human idea: the things you need are probably already in your neighbourhood. The skills you're looking for are probably two streets away. The connection you're missing is closer than you think.

Borrow a drill. Book a manicure. Lend your ladder. List your skills.

Small transactions. Real people. Actual neighbours.

In a world sprinting toward artificial intelligence, I am building something stubbornly, deliberately, unashamedly human — and I think that's exactly what makes it worth building right now.
